Peyton's 1st Hockey game

Last Friday and Saturday was Peyton's first hockey games. They played Delta Junction. Delta is about 100 miles away because of the distance the Delta team and some parents spent the night at the school. The Tok hockey club (aka all the hockey moms) make supper and breakfast for all the people sleeping at school.

Peyton with Mr. C ready to go on the ice.

Heading on to the ice.

Peyton is wearing #5. My favorite part of this video clip is when Peyton is waving to everyone in the crowd.

The Mites team's age level is from 3 yrs old to 8 yrs. old. Delta's team was mostly 8 yrs old so when faced off  with our preschools it looked like David and Goliath. We had a friend of our send us this picture I thought it was Peyton until I looked at the gloves and laces on the skates it is his good friend Mr. C.

Getting some help from the referee to the line. One of the Referee is a coach for the older kids. He was pretty good about helping the preschoolers get to the line.

During Friday night game was the first time we had seen Peyton actually push off on his feet and skate. Before he would just walk on the ice.

On Saturday the Mites played at 11:00 a.m.

Delta won both games by quite a few goals but it was fun to watch the kids skate around the rink trying to get the puck.

Peyton's Lego Birthday Party

Peyton had his birthday party on Dec. 9th. We decided to have it early due to our busy schedule.

Who needs spray snow to help decorate?

It is a common thing up to get this frost build up the windows and doors if they aren't doubled pane. It happens a lot with wood burning stove and these rooms are he farest away from the stove.

-46 and still walking to work

We woke up this morning to find that it was -46 outside so that meant no school for Peyton. Jason on the other hand still has school. Tok school never cancels school for weather. It is up to the parents if they want to send their kids. The school buses are in a heated garage and will start in weather like this so if the bus are running than the principal should probably be at school.

Hockey

Peyton started playing Hockey this week.  Monday was his first pratice I don't know who was more excited Jason or Peyton.

To help Peyton learn hockey they flip a chair down on the ice. Peyton uses the chair for balance while trying to move the puck with the back of the chair.

By the end of Tuesday pratice Peyton skated all by himself without any chair or help.

Peyton with his coach Shawn.

Friday night we went to the ice rink as a family. One of the perks of Jason's job is that he has the keys to the rink. We were able to have the whole place to ourselves.
Peyton getting all his gear on in the locker room.

Do I look like a hockey player?

Putting on his skates. You have to make sure that they are on tight.

Nolan waiting to get on to the ice.

Peyton hitting a few pucks.

I pushed Nolan around the rink on a chair.

This was the first time that Peyton could get up on a knee after falling down. The times before he would just lay on the ice until someone came to help him up.

Bowleen

Jason's school had Bowleen this weekend. The kids wore their costumes and tried bowling. It was a blast the kids love knocking the pins down with the ball or their feet.

Woodcutting

We were told even before we came to Alaska that we would need to cut wood for heating our house. It is the best way to heat your house. Shortly after we arrived Jason got a permit (it is a free permit you just have to register with the forest service) and then we started looking at where to cut wood.  We have found three different spots one at the school, another called Red Fox, and the last is on a mountain side. The Forestry dept makes these piles of trees (called decks) and then you can come in and cut off of them.

At Red Fox

When Jason first started cutting wood he would go out by himself. Then we found out that you could pick blueberries and cut wood on the mountain near us. One day we had a picnic up on the mountain after picking blueberries when Peyton asked if he could watch a movie in the truck and that is how we both could cut wood and have the kids with us.

Peyton and Nolan watching a movie. It is like going to the movie theater because you get popcorn.  and juice.

One time when we went to up the mountain a tree had fallen on the road so Jason pulled out the chainsaw and away he went.

It is harder cutting wood this way. I had more branches that I hacked off.

The bed of the truck full.

Peyton playing in the wood shed before we started cutting wood.

The wood shed as of today

Some of the larger logs we call sleepers because in the middle of the night you don't have to get up and throw some more logs into the stove. I would remind myself that as a I lugged them into the truck.

We have lately be cutting 8.5ft lengths of wood. We before had be cutting wood that would fit into our stove. The lengths are smaller in diameter but we can fit more into the truck.
