On Labor Day weekend we traveled to Palmer, AK to celebrate Nolan's 3rd birthday at the State Fair. We left in the afternoon on Friday and camped the night at Lake Louise. As we approach the road to Lake Louise Nolan said," This way to my birthday?" Jason replied," Yes, this is your birthday road." We tried explaining that the next few day was going to be his birthday celebration but I don't think he understood us. Since he asked it again when we got to the camp site and the rest of the weekend.
The view of the lake from the road.
We had a late start to morning probably because it was a little rainy and cold during the night and morning. We packed everything up in the truck and was hopeful that when we arrive in Palmer in a few hours we would set up the tent and let everything dry out.
Matanuska Glacier
We hiked the trail that takes you closer to the glacier. It was a good stop for the boys to run around and burn some energy.
Nolan again asked us,"This way to my birthday?"
I replied,"Yes, Nolan this is your birthday hike."
Just as we walked through the gate the first thing Peyton saw was a Mat-Su Borough Fireman and Firetruck. Peyton went right up to the truck it was no surprise to us since that is what he mainly pretends to be or build some sort of fire truck, boat or plane out of Legos. The Firemen asked Peyton and Nolan if they wanted to sit in the truck. This was one of Peyton's favorite things he did at the fair.
I was some what surprised to see Nolan so fascinated with all the animals. Nolan and I would slowly look at each animal. At one point I told Nolan that we have to hurry up because his Dad and Peyton were a ways from us and waiting for us to check up to them. He just looked at me and said," No, I want to look at animals."
It was fun to watch he with this lamb that he was able to pet. We would walk to the next pen and then Nolan would run back to pet this lamb again. This happened about 4-5 times.
Future farmers???
It was time for the rides. First up was the Ferris Wheel that is what Peyton said he wanted to go on the big round circle ride.
Jason getting on Ferris wheel with the boys.
I could tell Peyton was having a fun time from the ground with his screams of excitement
Jason told me later that Nolan had this huge grin on his face the whole time.
We traveled back home that night since we were unable to dry out all of our camping gear due to the rain all afternoon.
Sunday we opened his gifts and had his birthday cheesecake.
